I’m often asked how I got into modeling. This is how it happened.

In high school I took a career prep art program and my classmates began photographing me. When I was 15 years old I was dating a boy named Dustin who developed an interest in photography as well and naturally started taking photos of me with my ever-changing hair and makeup. Comfort in front of the camera developed and Dustin and I started collaborating more and submitting our work to online photography contests.

During the years that Dustin and I were together, we were both recruited while having coffee at Moka House in Cook Street Village, by a talent agency called VI Talent, for the film “Augusta, Gone (2006)”. VI Talent then went out of business and passed the roster over to another agency, VI Productions, and while Dustin lost interest I continued working as a background performer.

Dustin and I kept working together and after a while other photographers started asking him who his model was and the idea of modeling with other photographers ran through my head. I gained the confidence to finally step outside of my comfort zone and did a shoot with another photographer in 2007. While the photos from the shoot are some of my most popular images and are often re-created in various mediums by other artists, the day of posing set me into a hiatus. Professionalism is something I take very seriously and there were a few boundaries crossed that caused me to take more caution when checking references.

For the next year I focused on building my makeup artistry business. I was assisting with a set that I had done makeup for with Darren Kelly (S-U-B-L-I-M-E) as the photographer and after watching this gorgeous model with curves pose so beautifully, I made a comment about how envious I was of her confidence. The model, Nicole Baldwin, encouraged me to pursue modeling again. I witnessed a photographer maintaining a professional attitude and realized that not all photographers are inappropriate and unprofessional. This re-ignited my desire to model.

In early 2009 I dove head first into modeling again with Darren there to capture it. It seemed like after that, everywhere I went I was surrounded in photographers trying to set up shoots with me. On one occasion I was approached in downtown Victoria and asked to pose for a group of 14 photographers from all across Canada, and prints from the impromptu shoot ended up hanging in a Nanaimo, BC hair salon.

My work started being recognised on Vancouver Island and across the Lower Mainland and I started collaborating with Colin Scagliati, a hair stylist from Arq Hair Salon. My hair went through drastic changes and allowed for all different styles of shoots. More hairdressers started noticing my hair modeling work and I ended up posing for a stylist who placed 3rd in the 2011 Joico Colour contest, as well as posing for internationally published ads with the product line Senscience.

Finally in the fall of 2010 I decided to leave the company I was working as a makeup artist at, and move to Vancouver to pursue other adventures. Upon moving to Vancouver, a friend of mine’s mother was looking for performers for her talent agency and I was recruited for background performing work again. The agency once again went out of business and while on set for my last day, the casting director of the movie I was working on referred me to Showbiz Management. I got in touch with Showbiz and was signed right away.

Not far down the road, I applied to PUSH Promotions and after working 2 events I started getting 5-star reviews not only from the agency but also from large clients such as Belmont. While on location with PUSH, I was approached by another talent scout and signed with Reef Moxie as well. Both of these companies find me promotional modeling work.

So, modeling has been something I’ve been quite fortunate with. That being said, it is not a goal of mine to pursue a career in the industry and I have no desire to attempt runway modeling as I am not a conventional model standard.

If you have any questions about my history of modeling, or about any photographers or models I’ve worked with- Please send me an email!
